If an uncommon or unusual video file cannot be played due to a missing codec, the software will direct the user to search for results. The user can then browse more information and possible places to find the codec. GOM remote is a companion app for smart devices. This includes switching between video files, pausing videos, and powering off the PC. GOM Player plus is the premium version of the software.
This version is available after users register and pay for a license. Additional features unlocked include no ads, 4K resolution playback, and general performance upgrades. It has a sleek, user friendly design. The codecs have already been included. This is important because with most of the other players, searching for the appropriate codecs is a headache.
It does not have all the features of the other softwares. For instance, it does not allow customization to a degree as great as some of its competitors. It installs the Google bar alongside this. This might not be trouble for most of the users, since many people use the Google bar. However, for some of the customers, this is particularly irritating. It also connects automatically to the internet when it is launched, and this too without the permission of the user.
There is no option to simply move to the next file. Instead, when one tries to move to the next file, the current file begins to fast forward. One cool feature which might make frequent downloaders happy is the fact that GOM Player can actually playback files which haven't completed downloading yet, that is if you have a file which is just taking too long to retrieve, you can play it back to test out the quality and content before actually completing your download.
The player can also perform real-time index rebuilding of AVI files. As you would expect from such a popular program, GOM Player also sports a playlist which pops out, though the functionality and sorting functions of this feature are unfortunately lacking. However, when you open it, the file extension will get converted into ASX, as everything you save from this app becomes that file type.
You can make GOM your default player upon installation or any other time. You would have to manually select the songs you want to play from the folder where you keep them. To prevent this from happening, you need to save them into a playlist. These playlists would then go into a folder as an ASX file, and you have to repeat the process to listen to music. That is extremely cumbersome and that alone makes most other apps more preferable. GOM has an extensive selection of UI controls. For example, you can adjust the aspect ratio of the app in many different sizes.
This app lets you play a file in specific frame rates. You can also navigate through media by some small frames back and forth. Access them with your right mouse click. The VR mode would have been an awesome feature if the developers had spent a little more time on it.
If you have a video, the experience slightly improves, but there are apps that can play those better than GOM. GOM does not. Audio is low and there seems to be no bass involved.
You would be tempted to use the browsing app to watch YouTube videos.
